Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, demons, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in House Halovar could help the team access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Questers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
